Top Ten 2015 Releases I Meant To Get To But Didn’t

There were so many books I intended to read last year, and so many more that I hope to read this year. I had a huge reading/blogging slump hit me these last few months, but I hope to make up for it soon. This is a new year, and hopefully I can make a new go at blogging every day. Fingers crossed!

1.  Prudence by Gail Carriger – I preordered this book and everything, but I just wasn’t in the right head-space to read it. Then I kept forgetting about it when I finally started reading steampunk again. I will definitely read it this year, especially since I have been reading steampunk books voraciously for the last month. I feel like I should wait until the second book in the series comes out, since I hate waiting for too long between books. I love binge reading steampunk series.
2. The Nest by Kenneth Oppel – This book looks so good, but soooooo creepy! I want to read it, but I’m afraid that I’m going to have nightmares about wasps for weeks after. Kenneth Oppel is such a unique author, and I absolutely LOVE Oliver Jeffers art, so this is definitely going to be read at some point. I have a tonne of kids books I want to read this year, so I’ll have to add this too the pile and put on my big girl pants when I’m ready to read this. 😛
3. Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy – Even my friend who never reads YA liked this book, so I don’t know why I haven’t even picked it up yet. Maybe because I read so many reviews of it first and now I feel like I kind of know the story? Maybe because I’m not reading contemporary fiction YA right now? This one is as much of a mystery to me as it is to you. It definitely appeals to my interest in body positivity and more unique reading experiences for YA readers other than the same old dystopian fiction again and again.
4. The Weight of Feathers by Anna-Marie McLamore – I love the cover of this book, and it feeds my circus book addiction, but I keep forgetting that this book is even a thing! I don’t know why, but it just keeps falling off my radar and now we are in 2016 and I haven’t read it yet. This is one of those tales of star crossed lovers that I feel would totally appeal to me right now. I’ve been reading way too much steampunk romance and now I just want to see all the guys get their girls and vice versa.
5. This Is Your Life, Harriet Chance! by Jonathan Evison – I really wanted to read this book, and it calls to me from across the book store on a daily basis, and yet I haven’t picked it up yet. I’ve recommended it to people, because I think it will be a funny and endearing read, but I just never pick it up. I think part of it is because I was so disappointed in the beginning of another book like this, and it’s hard for me not to compare all books about older adults to The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Dissappeared or Our Souls at Night or A Man Called Ove.
6. George by Alex Gino – I was so disappointed when this didn’t get picked for the Goodreads Reader’s Choice Awards, even though I haven’t read it yet. I think it’s a book that is really needed, and I had hoped that people were willing to embrace this book about a transgender youth with as much enthusiasm as they seem to care about Caitlyn Jenner and the rest of the Kardashians. It made it far enough that I have hope for our future, but I still think it should have won.
7. Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley – I own this. I bought it the week it came out, and yet there it sits on my Kobo, completely unread. I really enjoyed one of this author’s short stories that was published in a collection by Neil Gaiman, and I love the cover of this book, but I haven’t felt compelled to read it since buying it. I think it has a really interesting premise, and I already know I like the author’s writing style, so I don’t know what is keeping me from cracking this one open.
8. The Unmapped Sea by Maryrose Wood – I adore this series, and I was desperately waiting for this book to come out when I realized that book 4 wasn’t the last book in the series. This book just completely slipped my mind until it showed up in my store one day. The publisher is re-releasing them with a new set of covers, so I hope this means that I get to introduce Miss Lumley and the Incorrigible Children to many more youngsters.
9. Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine – I wanted to read this book so badly after seeing it show up on so many TTT lists in June, but then I hit my reading slump and then my blogging slump, and suddenly it’s a new year. I hope to get to this one in the near future. I’ve never read a book by Rachel Caine, but I have heard nothing but good things about the Morganville Vampire series. I hope that this one lives up to that reputation because I’m a sucker for a book about books.
10. License to Quill by Jacopo della Quercia – This one really wasn’t my fault. I asked for the ARC on Netgalley and didn’t get approved for it, so it’s just been sitting as a “wish I had it” for the longest time. But last week I managed to convince one of my sources to send me an ARC in the mail, so I’m eagerly awaiting it’s arrival at my store. The requirement for getting the book is a guaranteed review, so we can all look forward to at least one review that I am compelled to write this month. 😉
