10 Beautiful Quotes from Books

This week is supposed to be all about lovey-dovey stuff to get us prepped for Valentine’s Day, so I tried to find some “swoony” quotes but came away with a bunch of beautiful quotes instead. Many of these are about love, but some are just so beautiful that they made me fall in love with the book. Hopefully you feel the same way.

“Love is a house. Everything in a house should be used—nothing mothballed or ‘spared.’ Only if we fully inhabit a house, shunning no room and no door, are we truly alive. Arguing and touching each other tenderly are both important; so are holding each other tight and pushing the other away. We must use absolutely every one of love’s rooms. If not, ghosts and rumors will thrive. Neglected rooms and houses can become treacherous and foul….”
― Nina George, The Little Paris Bookshop

“Every one of her foxey ways was now so absolutely precious to him that I believe that if he had known for certain she was dead, and had thoughts of marrying a second time, he would never have been happy with a woman. No, indeed, he would have been more tempted to get himself a tame fox, and would have counted that as good a marriage as he could make.”
― David Garnett, Lady into Fox

“He was like a song she’d heard years back, played again in a quiet room; there was no telling if the song was any good, or if she only remembered it fondly because of the person she’d been long ago, when she heard it first.”
― Genevieve Valentine, The Girls at the Kingfisher Club

“Love is so painful, how could you ever wish it on anybody? And love is so essential, how could you ever stand in its way?”
― David Levithan, Two Boys Kissing

“You can tell me anything, her eyes say, because I will see the beauty in everything you say.”
― Rene Denfeld, The Enchanted

“There is none other like me. There is none other like her. We are unbelievable, impossible. I fly as high as the Heavens which cast me out. I have run out my comet’s course: she is the world, I have sought out. Round her I have cast the loop of my orbit, and am held fast and safe; she is my Sea of Tranquility, my Milky Way, bearded with Berenice’s Hair. I am a new constellation, pegged out in the sky. I am joy. Complete. For ever.” ― Rosie Garland, The Palace of Curiosities

“People said Ove saw the world in black and white. But she was color. All the color he had.”
― Fredrik Backman, A Man Called Ove

“Who would have thought at this time in our lives that we’d still have something like this. That it turns out we’re not finished with changes and excitements. And not all dried up in body and spirit.” ― Kent Haruf, Our Souls at Night

“North knew the truth about Avalon: she was made of fire, and she would burn them all.”
― Kirsty Logan, The Gracekeepers

“..because the only kind of love I have to
offer is stupid and blind and so deep and powerful that I feel like I’m cracking just to hold it in.”
― Brent Weeks, The Way of Shadows

  1. I just love the quote from A Man Called Ove. That was such an awesome book. I think that’s my favorite quote from it. Two Boys Kissing is in my TBR stack. I really should pull it out and read it.
