Blogging vs Life (Death Match?)

Remember last year when I was blogging every day? No? Yeah, it’s hard for me to remember that far back too. Anyway, it’s been a rough 6 months for my poor little blog. I just got it up and running and then I practically abandoned it. It wasn’t intentional, believe me. I just found myself distracted by life outside of book blogging.

Here’s a quick update on all the bookish things I’ve been up to but never told you about:

In February I went to the Penguin Random House offices for their Spring Preview. They held a great event themed after speed dating, so we got to hop from table to table to hear about all the great books they had coming out soon. It was great to meet all the other people who work at PRH that we rarely see, and afterwards some of their authors dropped by for a quick talk. Chris Cleeve was there, which was kind of the highlight of the night.

While working at the bookstore later that month we were visited by the amazing Canadian author, Lawrence Hill. He dropped in to sign all of his books for us, which was amazing and worked out really well for us when his book just happened to win the Canada Reads debates.

In March I went out with Elyse to see Linwood Barclay speak about his latest book, Far From True, at the Toronto Public Library. This was definitely one of the highlights of this year because he is an amazing speaker. If any of you ever get the chance to see him speak I would highly recommend it. He’s funny and smart and great at keeping people on track with their questions. He’s a regular visitor at my bookstore because he also happens to be local to my area, so I can’t wait to tell him that I was finally able to see him speak.
Earlier in April I went with Elyse to another event at the Toronto Public Library. This time we went to see the author of The Prison Book Club, Anne Walmsley.b. She wasn’t as charismatic as Linwood, but she did a great job of sharing her book with the audience. Since I had already read it, many of her stories were familiar to me, but Elyse was eager to read the book after the event just to find out more.
At the end of the month I’m headed back to the Penguin Random House offices for another neat event. I get to sit down with Jojo Moyes to discuss her book Me Before You. I have a copy at home that will be the next thing on my reading list as soon as I finish the series that I’m invested in reading right now. Hopefully I like it as much as I think I will, because this could be a really awkward event otherwise. 😛

I really hope that I can get back into the habit of blogging on a schedule. It’s rather likely that every day blogging isn’t sustainable for me, but I’d like to be able to say that I’m still going it fairly regularly. Along with that, I need to figure out how to incorporate gym visits, reading, and other hobbies into my ever changing work schedule. C’est la vie!
