‘Princeless, Vol. 1: Save Yourself’ by Jeremy Whitley & Mia Goodwin

Oh my gosh, this comic is so awesome! First of all, diversity! Second of all, feminism! Third of all, Sparky!

Synopsis: Princeless is the story of Princess Adrienne, one princess who’s tired of waiting to be rescued. Join Adrienne, her guardian dragon, Sparky, and their plucky friend Bedelia as they begin their own quest in this one of a kind, action packed, all-ages adventure!

I love when authors and artists spin a new tale out of all the silly stereotypes present in fairytales. Of course a girl doesn’t need to just sit around waiting for a prince to come along to save her. Adrienne is better with a sword than most of the prince’s that show up at her tower, and Sparky really isn’t trying that hard to keep them out. And while it seems like her siblings are all willing to put up with whatever crazy plan their dad has for them, they each deal with their captivity in their own way. I can’t wait to read more of this great series!

And of course I have to check out Raven: The Pirate Princess next!
