Book Blogger Hop: Reading Challenges, Yes or No?

books-768426_640Q: Do you participate in readathons and/or reading challenges? (submitted by Kristin @ Lukten av Trykksverte)

A: I have tried a few challenges, but I have a really bad habit of not being able to keep up with such things. I last about a week or so and then I find myself feeling restricted by the demands of a challenge. I definitely can’t make read-a-thons happen with my current work and life schedule. Maybe some day when I’m not working 2 jobs and am constantly distracted by a bunch of other things, but for now, I’m going to stick with trying to keep up with the reading obligations I have signed on for with my job and blogging hobby.

EDIT: I do set myself a goal on Goodreads every year, but I don’t really think of it as a challenge. I just read as much as I can, whenever I can, and if I meet the goal then I make it higher and higher until the end of the year.

    1. Definitely. I’ve tried a few other apps and websites for logging my TBR and Read books, but none of them work so well. I like being able to create my own shelves, quickly adding a book via the scan feature in the app, and the large community of booklovers.

  1. I am exactly the same! Just keep raising the goal when I meet it, no stress, no pressure! Reading is one of those things you really need your full attention for (except audiobooks, and even then, sometimes!) so it’s definitely hard to do these readathons when you’re working so much!

  2. I’m horrible at readathons and challenges too but I love making TBRs for them (that I never follow) and attempting to participate. Sometimes I do better than I expected but I often fail. Either way, I always have fun with it.

  3. I have the same problem with read-athons. It’s hard to carve out a big junk of time to participate. I do enjoy reading challenges, although I am taking a break this year. Like you, I find myself losing steam after awhile when it comes to them. I used to be better at following through with them.

  4. I participate in the Goodreads challenge to keep track of the books I read. Other than that, I haven’t been able to keep up with a challenge.
