Ten Bookish Resolutions & Goals

I don’t usually do resolutions and goals for the year, but this year I seem to be embracing way more life-changing plans than every before. I have always wanted this blog to do well, so I hope that these goals will be incorporated into my new life plan as easily as some others have been.

emmaRead at least one book a week: Last year I set myself an ambitious goal of 120 books to read, but I didn’t even come close. This was because work really got in the way, and I wasn’t finding anything that really appealed to me. This year I plan to set myself a more reasonable goal of 1 book per week, since sometimes I can read an entire book in one day, and other times I can’t seem to pick up a book even if I want to.

Spend at least one hour per week writing for the blog: I really let my blog suffer this last year, partly because I wasn’t reading much, and partly because I just wasn’t feeling motivated. I want this blog to succeed, so I’m going to try to make an effort to set aside time each week to write.

sickUpdate my Instagram/bookstagram account at least once a week: I also let my bookstagram account really fall by the wayside in 2017. I just wasn’t invested in the upkeep of my account. I really want to try to keep up with it this year by participating in photo challenges again.

Participate in at least one Top Ten Tuesday post a month: Hurray, I succeeded this month! I really enjoy these lists, and I’m so glad that Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl is continuing the blog hop now that The Broke and the Bookish has shut down.

non-ficSpend more time digesting the information presented to me in non-fiction books: I tend to read books very quickly and without always absorbing as much info as others. This is especially obvious to me when I read non-fiction. I get some facts, but I don’t feel like I learn as much as I could. This year I plan to read slower and with more intent.

Don’t buy books that I’m not going to read: I have a really bad habit of buying books that are on sale without thinking about when I will find the time to read them. I also tend to preorder books that I feel like I will ‘want’ to read, but then when they show up I am less interested because something else has captured my interest.

Re-read some favourites: I say that I really love Pride and Prejudice, but I haven’t reread the book in years. I want to really immerse myself in the books that I call my favourites, and to enjoy them once again.

classicsRead the classics that I bought last year: I bought a whole stack of classic books last year because they were beautiful and I haven’t read so many of them. They are all sitting under my bed, unread and lonely. I need to give them each a try just to see what made them classics in the first place, and so that I can be more knowledgeable as a bookseller.

Break out of my comfort zone and try books in different genres: I tend to read a lot of YA, science fiction, and fantasy. I don’t break out of my comfort zone very often, and when I do it tends to be very specific topics that interest me. I really want to give some other genres and styles a try, just to see if I enjoy them. I don’t want to say that I don’t like a genre until I have tried to read some books that represent that genre.

Keep Goodreads “To-Read” list down to a manageable level: I have already deleted a whole bunch of titles from my Goodreads “to-read” shelf, and I plan to keep it to a more manageable level this year. Only books that I own or REALLY want to read will be added to the shelf. This way I can have a better idea of how many books are still outstanding in my bookish life.

toptentuesdayTop Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new Top Ten list for anyone to answer. Just add a link to them on your post, and add your name to the weekly linky!

    1. I know how you feel. I read so many books last year that I never got around to reviewing. I don’t know if I want to revisit any of them. I find that if I dont write a review right away that I can’t seem to find the words later. Thanks for reading!
