When I was a kid I tended to only read my favourite authors, mainly because I didn’t have a lot of choice in the matter. Now that I work in a bookstore I tend to grab anything and everything that looks good. I read a lot of new authors last year, but these are the four that I feel like people would be surprised to learn were new to me.
The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman
I have looked at Abbi’s books for many years, always drawn to their great covers, but never getting any further. But when she decided to write a book about a bookseller I knew it was meant to be. I’m not sure if her other books are exactly what I would enjoy reading, but I’m willing to give them a chance.
The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune
I’m not exactly sure which book by T.J. Klune I first noticed, but this cover definitely called to me. Then I read the description and was even more entranced. This incredible cast of quirky characters is so lovable. I just wish the story continued. Instead I’ll have to try some of his other books.
Naked in Death by J.D. Robb
Most readers know that JD Robb is just a pen name for Nora Roberts. I’ve never read any of her books, so I decided to give this series a try because it looked somewhat interesting. I don’t think I’ll be reading any more of the series because I don’t really enjoy the characters, but I might try her latest fantasy series that came out during the holidays.
A Murder for the Books by Victoria Gilbert
Everyone knows I love a cozy mystery about bookish people, so I don’t know how this author slipped by my radar for so long. She has a couple of different series that I’ll be working my way through in the next year. I like this one a lot because it has a mystery within a mystery. Hopefully the rest of the series is just as good.
Did you try anything new authors last year?

T.J. Klune is definitely on my radar:). And Himself is a huge fan of Robb with most of her books on his Kindle. I hope you find some lovely new authors this year, too.
