TTT: Last Ten Books That Came Into My Possession

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic and this week’s topic is: Last Ten Books That Came Into My Possession

Posting this a little late today because I forgot to finish it and get it scheduled. I’m seriously falling behind on my posts, but hopefully I can keep up my daily posts, even if they are just something small. These are the 10 books I can remember coming into my hands lately, but I’m sure there are a few that I have forgotten.

1. On Love – A Selection of Famous Love Poems & Love Letters (new) – I don’t read a lot of poetry, but this little book has been calling to me for ages so I thought I would finally pick it up. There’s a copy that was misprinted (or maybe it was intentional?) that made the entire cover pink, but I much prefer the original version of the cover. I’m thinking of using it as an inspiration source for upcoming posts, although I don’t want to make you all gag from too much lovey-dovey stuff. 😉
2. Sense & Sensibility (illustrated, 1950s) by Jane Austen (used) – I snagged this beauty at The Monkey’s Paw when I went out with Elyse a while ago. I have an illustrated version of Pride and Prejudice which I adore, but all the other versions I have come across have been 100% text. I love all the beautiful pictures in this book. I need to scan some so that you can all see how wonderful these pictures are whenever I finally get around to reading and reviewing the book.
3. Trumpets from Montparnasse by Robert Gibbings (used) – This book came out of the Biblio-mat at The Monkey’s Paw. I wouldn’t have picked it on my own, but it looks like an interesting book, so I might just give it a try. I’ve been reading a book about the history of diaries and this is sort of a travel journal, so it peaked my interest. I couldn’t even find this book on Goodreads, so I had to add my own information by doing some Google digging for any information that might be out there.
4. Bad Judgment by John Reilly (new) – A few years ago I read this author’s previous work called Bad Medicine which is about his early days as judge for a First Nations community plagued by suicide, addiction, poverty, violence and corruption. I actually used his first book as reference material in a paper I wrote for a class about criminal law. This book is about his battle with the Canadian justice system and the difficulties he faced trying to adapt Eurocentric Canadian law for the benefit of First Nations people across the country.
5. Rags & Bones edited by Melissa Marr & Tim Pratt (new) – I’ve heard about this book so many times, but haven’t actually read any of the stories. When I saw it in Another Story Bookshop I knew I had to pick it up. I love short stories and I love retold fairy tales, so this is perfect for me. It’s also illustrated by Charles Vess, which is super cool because I think his art is absolutely amazing.
6. Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon (arc) – I have been yearning for this book since the people at Penguin Random House told us about it. I finally got an arc in the mail the other day and immediately started reading it. I am so glad it came because I was in a serious reading slump. I flew through this book in only a couple hours, then just sat there thinking about it because it’s just that kind of book.
7. Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee (new) – I imagine this one is going to be on a lot of lists today. I preordered this book a week before its release because I wanted to get the preorder deal. I was hesitating about it, but I really wanted to make sure I have a first edition of this book because I know that even if it sucks people are going to talk about it forever and one day I want to be able to show my kids that I have one of the very first copies.
8. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling (audiobook) – I bought this audiobook on iBooks because I needed something that will entertain me while I am walking or running. I have vowed only to listen to it when I’m exercising, which means that this could take me a LONG time to finish, but I know it’s going to be worth it. Now I just have to get off my butt and get moving!
9. Maplecroft (The Borden Dispatches #1) by Cherie Priest (ebook) – I totally love this author’s writing, so I bought a bunch of her books on Kobo in a fit of “gotta have it” mania. This series is about Lizzy Borden, who most of us know as being the girl who was accused of killing her father and stepmother with an axe. In this series she is also fighting an ancient evil that possesses souls, and is really just trying to stay out of the limelight caused by all those pesky murder charges.
10. The Hanged Man by P.N. Elrod (ebook) – Gail Carriger mentioned this book on Facebook a while back and was raving out it. I decided that it looked like something I might want to read, so I decided to get the digital version to use as a backup book when I don’t have something else on the go. Victorian urban fantasy thriller? Umm, yes please!
